The Best in Music and Theatre

As the new resident theatre company at the Grand Theatre, Bottle Tree Productions has three great shows lined up for November and December at the Grand Theatre in downtown Kingston.

First up on Saturday, November 8th at 7:30 pm is the fabulous Bobby Show; a blast from the past with musical hits from the 50's and 60's. Smooth, suave and sophisticated this show promises to have you dancing in the aisles!

Then we have riveting theatrical entertainment starring three of Kingston's top young actors in Cyrano by Jo Roets. Martin Fobert stars as the tragic Cyrano and Justin Robertson plays the handsome Christian while multi-award winning actor Hannah Smith plays Roxanne; the object of their affections. Directed by Amie Bello. November 26th-29th at 7:30 pm in the Baby Grand Studio upstairs in the Grand Theatre. There will also be a Saturday afternoon at 3 pm on the 29th. It promises to be an intimate and exciting night of theatre.

In December we bring the Holiday Classic; A Christmas Carol to the main stage at The Grand Theatre. It is the Broadway musical version of the miserly Ebeneezer Scrooge who thinks Christmas is nothing but a humbug! Featuring great songs and big dance numbers and a cast of 60 local performers, this emotional story of redemption is just what the doctor ordered to lift your spirits during the Holiday Crunch. The show runs Thursday to Saturday at 7:30 pm with a Saturday matinee at 2 pm.

Michael K Myers leads the Bobby Show into the Grand Theatre

Michael K Myers leads the Real Gone Cats into the Grand Theatre, Saturday November 8th at 7:30 pm to perform the hit 50's and 60's nostalgia show; The Bobby Show. The rest of the veteran band members are Tim Hallman, Bob Aldridge and Gary Barratt. As of Saturday October 11th the band has already sold 430 tickets for the show so book your tickets now because it looks like it will be sold out and the house will be rocking!

Cyrano at the Baby Grand

A story of of unrequited love, passion and ultimately tragedy,

Taken from the classic 1897 French play “Cyrano de Bergerac” by Edmond Rostand, Belgian playwright Jo Roets’ creates a slimmed down version of the classic tale, with only three actors playing all the parts in this charming adaptation. The play is based on the real-life 17th century poet and swordsman of the same name.

The story; Cyrano loves the beautiful Roxanne. He is a gifted man of substance who possesses great virtue and talent. He has everything going for him but for a huge physical flaw, a very large nose. Because of this, he fears revealing his love to her because he doesn't think she could ever get past his looks to love him. He also knows she loves the handsome Christian. Cyrano befriends Christian, who similarly feels inadequate. While Christian’s defining features are his good looks, he too has a big flaw. He lacks intelligence. He is totally unable to verbalize his thoughts and feelings to Roxanne. He asks the literate Cyrano to write love letters to her for him. Cyrano agrees and so the story unfolds.

An entertaining feature of “Cyrano” is the use of unique sound effects onstage-delivered in original and delightful ways by each of the characters as the scenes require.

A wonderful retelling of the Beauty and the Beast myth.

An evening of Film Noir inspired one-act plays taking place against the backdrop of the City of Angels. Season Three premieres September 12, 2014.

Description

P L.A.Y Noir is an evening of six short plays, revolving around classic noir themes of greed, lust, and betrayal. With the City of Angels as its backdrop, P L.A.Y Noir’s tales will transport the audience back to Hollywood’s Golden Age, where they'll encounter hardboiled detectives, double-crossing femme fatales, unscrupulous villains and plenty of intrigue.

Opens September 12, 2014 at the Actor’s Workout Studio in North Hollywood, and runs through October 5, 2014. Showtimes at 8 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays at 2 p.m.

 

Also; Charles' one act play; Ghost of the Tree directed by Lynne Rafter and starring Mackenzie Gruer opens Monday September 22nd in Toronto at the Amsterdam Bicycle Club at 54 the Esplanade.

August Newsletter/2014

Charles and I have a lot of news to share with you this month. 

First and foremost, we are happy to announce that we are now designated as Company in Residence at The Grand Theatre. Our productions and end-of-session shows will be held at The Grand Theatre. We are fortunate to work with other theatre professionals at the city’s premiere venue, and we are excited to share that enriched environment with our acting students and with our pool of community performers.  Our studio space ( for classes and rehearsals) continues to be up the street from the Grand, at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. 

We are thrilled to announce that Amie E. Bello is joining 'The Bottle Tree Family' as Acting Instructor, and we are excited to introduce two brand-new artists to the Kingston community; Choreographer Sasha French, and Music Director Darrell Bryan.

Amie E. Bello is a familiar face on stage in Kingston. She has performed and directed with many of our local theatre and musical theatre companies. You may have seen her on stage at The Grand as Mama Rose in Gypsy, or in Les Miserables as Mme. Thenardier. Amie received her Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Performance from the University of Findlay, in Findlay, Ohio. She also earned a Bachelor of Education degree from Queen’s University in the Artist in Community Education track. We are fortunate to have someone of Amie's calibre teaching classes for us this year. Shasha French holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance from the University of Florida. She has spent the last five years between dance communities in the Southern states, teaching as adjunct faculty and guest artist at two Tampa area colleges working and producing at the American Dance Festival, creating new work for her own company, HEMISPHERE dance, and performing with Moving Current Dance Collective and American Stage. Darrell Bryan hails from the UK and has over 15 years' experience as a performer, educator, and conductor. He has studied at Keele University (UK) and York University (Ontario), and holds  a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Music Education. He has an extensive background in musical direction for theatre, and in both orchestral and vocal conducting, that spans three continents. Darrell has recently been appointed Artistic Director of The Kingston Townsmen and Musical Director of Cookes'-Portsmouth United Church.
